Traditional Methods of Data Delivery
Traditionally, Data service providers and Internet Service Providers locate almost all of the equipment they need to provide service at their Central Offices or POP's (points of presence). Then they provide data delivery services over copper wires or fibre connections, each of which costs money. More customers means more connections; it also means more expensive and powerful systems are required to provide this wide-area service, which makes upgrades and improvements expensive and difficult.
The largest cost in providing traditional Internet or data transmission services is the cost of the connection between the individual business client and the service provider's POP.
